Durham approved a contract for eight buses in October, mixing diesel and electric vehicles. The investment addresses a real requirement: buses must be safe and available to operate service.

Our view for Durham

We argue that fleet spending should be accompanied by a public dashboard of service reliability, missed trips, accessibility and maintenance. An expensive vehicle sitting idle does little for a resident waiting in the rain. Electric transition goals are important, but so is the daily experience of a rider using the system to reach work or a medical appointment.

What we want to see next

City leaders should connect capital spending with customer-centered measures that can be tracked as the fleet enters operation.
