Commentary | Bull City Citizen Editorial Desk
Durham has reported housing outreach at Oakwood Park and a temporary closure for park restoration. The city's account describes services offered to people living there and work intended to return the space to public use.
Our view for Durham
The public should resist language suggesting that people without stable housing and families seeking safe parks are natural enemies. Both deserve a humane, functional city. That means transparent reopening schedules, lasting housing support and genuine consultation with nearby residents. Success on one goal cannot excuse abandoning the other.
What we want to see next
Our view is that future reports should give progress updates on both housing outcomes and park conditions in one place.
