Durham, NC – The holiday season is a time for giving, and the Durham Police Department has stepped up to spread cheer to some of the city’s most vulnerable residents. Officer Beckett and HEART Clinician Christina Lewis, both members of the department’s Co-Response Unit, recently made special deliveries of plush toys to the Durham Rescue Mission Women’s Shelter and Lenox Baker Children’s Hospital.
These high-quality toys were purchased by generous customers at Jared’s Jewelers in Southpoint Mall. As part of the initiative, the proceeds from the toy sales were donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. To extend the impact, the toys were left with Jared’s Jewelers for donation, and Officer Beckett took on the heartwarming task of finding deserving recipients.
The toys brought smiles and a sense of joy to children and families at both locations. At the Durham Rescue Mission Women’s Shelter, the gifts provided a boost of holiday spirit to residents navigating challenging circumstances. Meanwhile, at Lenox Baker Children’s Hospital, the plush toys brought comfort to young patients undergoing treatment.
The collaboration exemplifies how local businesses, law enforcement, and community members can come together to make a meaningful difference during the holidays. The efforts of Officer Beckett and Clinician Lewis reflect the Durham Police Department’s commitment to not only serve but also uplift the community.
This initiative underscores the spirit of the season—compassion, generosity, and unity. As Durham residents look forward to the holidays, stories like this remind us of the importance of spreading joy and supporting those in need.
