The November 5 work-session agenda includes procurement, maintenance and auditing items that can look routine compared with larger political debates. One item concerns street-maintenance contract authority and another a year-end inventory audit.

Our view for Durham

Our view is that routine does not mean unimportant. The city should make it straightforward for residents to compare original and amended contract amounts, understand what changed and locate the evidence of completed work. Better public documents make constructive scrutiny easier and inaccurate speculation less attractive.

What we want to see next

We urge officials to link contract amendments, relevant audit findings and follow-up records in one searchable location.
