The No. 11 Duke Blue Devils rebounded from a tough loss to Kansas with a commanding 70-48 win over the Seattle Redhawks at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Friday night. Duke’s defense shined, holding Seattle to just 21.3% shooting from the field, the second-lowest percentage by an opponent this season.
Sophomore Tyrese Proctor led the Blue Devils (5-2) with 13 points, while freshman phenom Cooper Flagg showcased his all-around game, contributing nine points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. Duke extended a 12-point halftime lead by going on a 13-0 run to open the second half, effectively sealing the game.
Seattle’s Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe fought hard, finishing with nine points and 12 rebounds, but the Redhawks (2-5) struggled offensively, converting only 10 of 47 shots. This was Seattle’s first-ever matchup against Duke and their pursuit of an Atlantic Coast Conference victory since 2010 fell short.
Turning Point
Duke’s post-halftime surge proved decisive. Caleb Foster’s transition points sparked the Blue Devils’ dominant 13-0 run. Isaiah Evans punctuated the stretch with a crowd-pleasing dunk, pushing the lead to 50-25 at the 12:33 mark.
Building Momentum
This win helped Duke regroup following Tuesday’s loss to top-ranked Kansas in the Vegas Showdown. Head coach Jon Scheyer emphasized the importance of defensive intensity, which was evident in the second half as the Blue Devils held the Redhawks scoreless for the first eight minutes.
What’s Next?
The Blue Devils will look to continue their momentum as they prepare for the remainder of their non-conference schedule. With standout performances from players like Proctor and Flagg, Duke fans have plenty to look forward to this season.
