Durham Police Investigating Two Early-Morning Armed Robberies at Local Gas Stations

DURHAM, NC – Durham police are actively investigating two armed robberies that took place early Thursday morning at separate gas stations in the city. Authorities responded to incidents at a Shell station on North Duke Street and a BP station on Hillandale Road within a short span of time.

According to law enforcement officials, the first robbery occurred around 5:15 a.m. at the Shell gas station located in the 3700 block of North Duke Street. Preliminary reports indicate that three suspects, one of whom was armed with a firearm, entered the business, stole money and various items, and fled in a vehicle.

Fifteen minutes later, officers were dispatched to the BP gas station in the 1800 block of Hillandale Road. Investigators say three men – matching similar descriptions to the earlier incident – entered the station demanding money. When their demands were not met, the armed suspect discharged a firearm inside the establishment before the group fled the scene.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either incident, according to police.

Ongoing Investigation and Suspect Descriptions

While witness accounts at both crime scenes provided similar descriptions of the suspects, Durham police officials have stated it is still too early to determine if the same individuals were involved in both robberies.

Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that might assist in the investigation. Individuals with details related to these incidents are encouraged to contact the Durham Police Department at 919-683-1200 or provide anonymous tips through Durham CrimeStoppers at durhamcrimestoppers.org.

Community Concerns and Safety Precautions

These incidents add to growing concerns about crime in Durham, particularly in high-traffic commercial areas. Local businesses are being advised to enhance security measures, including improved surveillance systems and increased employee awareness during late and early hours.

The Durham Police Department continues to emphasize the importance of community involvement in crime prevention efforts. Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant, report suspicious activity, and take precautions when visiting businesses during off-peak hours.
