North Carolina Central University (NCCU) officials have responded to a post-game altercation that broke out Friday night following their football team’s decisive 26-3 victory over Howard University. The incident, which involved players from both teams, has prompted a full review by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and an internal investigation by NCCU.
In a statement released Sunday, NCCU Chancellor Dr. Karrie G. Dixon condemned the behavior displayed during the altercation.
“This controversy is not only very disappointing but also very different from the core values of North Carolina Central University,” Dixon stated. “Such disruptive behavior is unacceptable, and we intend to conduct a full investigation and take appropriate disciplinary action to ensure accountability.”

Video captured by CBS 17 showed players from both teams converging near one end zone shortly after the game. While some members of the NCCU team attempted to de-escalate the situation and keep their players away, others engaged in pushing and shoving, prompting Durham police to intervene.
The MEAC announced Saturday morning that it will conduct a thorough review of the post-game brawl, analyzing video footage, reports from game officials, and accounts from neutral observers, coaches, athletic staff, and the student-athletes involved.
NCCU’s Response
NCCU officials assured the public that appropriate actions would be taken once the university completes its investigation.
The incident casts a shadow over what had been a successful home game for NCCU. Friday’s matchup marked the Eagles’ final home game of the season as they prepare for their next challenge against Delaware State on November 23.
