North Carolina Central University Student Carrie Everett Prepares to Compete for Miss America Crown

Durham, NC – North Carolina Central University (NCCU) sophomore Carrie Everett, the reigning Miss North Carolina 2024, is preparing to take the national stage at the upcoming Miss America Competition in Orlando. Everett, a talented vocalist and rising star, will represent the state as she competes for one of the nation’s most prestigious titles in the first week of January 2025.

A Journey of Talent and Dedication

Carrie Everett captured the title of Miss North Carolina in June 2024, earning recognition for her exceptional poise, talent, and leadership. CBS 17 first highlighted Everett’s achievement as she joined a legacy of remarkable women to represent North Carolina in the historic Miss America pageant.

Everett, who plans to showcase her singing talents during the competition’s talent segment, shared her gratitude for the journey so far:

“I’m filled with gratitude, and that’s all I can think about because of all the people who have poured into me throughout this process. I’m excited to meet new people and build new relationships that will last a lifetime.”

Representing NCCU and North Carolina

As a sophomore at North Carolina Central University, a historically Black university with a proud tradition of excellence, Everett’s journey has resonated deeply with her peers, mentors, and supporters. Her success highlights NCCU’s commitment to fostering talent, leadership, and cultural impact.

If crowned Miss America, Everett would make history as the first Miss North Carolina to win the national title since Maria Fletcher in 1962—a 62-year gap. Her presence on the stage reflects not only her personal achievements but also the strength and vibrancy of North Carolina’s communities.

The Miss America Legacy

The Miss America pageant, founded in 1921, has served as a launchpad for countless successful careers in entertainment, public service, and advocacy. Known for its emphasis on talent, scholarship, and service, the competition has evolved to highlight women’s contributions across various fields while empowering contestants to pursue academic and professional goals.

Everett’s participation promises to bring further visibility to the state and NCCU as she competes alongside contestants from across the nation.

Preparing for the Stage

Everett will travel to Orlando shortly after Christmas to finalize preparations for the competition, which includes interviews, talent performances, and eveningwear presentations. Her dedication to her craft and her platform positions her as a strong contender in the national spotlight.
