RALEIGH, NC – Snowmelt and freezing temperatures Sunday night and Monday morning have prompted several school districts across central North Carolina to adjust their schedules for Monday, January 13. With icy conditions persisting on some shaded roads, school officials are prioritizing safety for students and staff.
Closures and Delays by District:
•Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools: Operating on a 2-hour delay. All bus pickups and school start times will begin two hours later than usual.
•Durham Public Schools: 2-hour delay for all students and staff, including preschool programs and central services.
•Franklin County Schools: Closed to students. Optional workday for employees.

Icy Roads Continue to Pose Hazards
In Orange County, icy patches remain a concern. Deputies reported a Sunday accident on Frazier Road near Mt. Hope Primitive Baptist Church, where a vehicle skidded on snow and crashed into a wooden fence. Crews have worked to treat roads, but some shaded areas remain hazardous.
Safety Reminder for Commuters
Officials urge caution for those traveling Monday morning, particularly on less-trafficked or shaded roads. Delays and closures allow road crews additional time to treat icy spots and help ensure safe travel for buses and families.
