Durham Rescue Mission to Host 47th Annual Christmas Community Dinner and Toy Giveaway

Durham, NC – The Durham Rescue Mission will host its 47th Annual Christmas Community Dinner and Toy Giveaway on Monday, December 23, providing food, fun, and gifts to those in need. The event will take place at the Durham Rescue Mission’s Men’s Campus, located at 1201 E. Main Street, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Serving the Community with Food, Toys, and Hope

This longstanding event aims to brighten the holiday season for homeless and underprivileged families across the Triangle. Attendees will enjoy a free traditional Christmas meal, featuring ham, turkey, green beans, corn, and all the festive trimmings.

Durham Rescue Mission President and CEO Rev. Rob Tart highlighted the importance of the event:

“Christmas is a very special time of year. Gifts, family, friends, and fun are the ingredients of a special Christmas time. However, there are still people in our community who don’t have all of those ingredients. That’s why we have our annual Christmas Party. We want to make sure every child in the Triangle has a great Christmas.”

Toys, Games, and Grand Prizes for Families

The event ensures every child in attendance will receive three toys, helping families ease the financial pressures of the holiday season. Beyond the toy giveaway, families can look forward to:

Grand prize drawings featuring a 65-inch 4K Smart TV, three Chromebooks, two Nintendo Switch consoles, and bicycles.

Children’s activities, including carnival games, a bounce house, and prize giveaways.

Clothing and grocery distributions to help families meet essential needs.

These offerings not only aim to spread joy but also provide practical support for individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.

The Durham Rescue Mission’s Legacy of Giving

Founded in 1974, the Durham Rescue Mission has served as a beacon of hope for the homeless and impoverished in the Triangle. Events like the Annual Christmas Community Dinner reflect the organization’s core mission: to address not only physical needs but also create a sense of community and belonging during the holidays.
