DURHAM, NC (WNCN) – Firefighters responded to a house fire that left one dog dead Sunday night on the outskirts of Durham, the fire department said.
Crews were called to the fire around 11 a.m. in the 600 block of Stoney Creek Circle in the Oak Grove neighborhood. “First responders found a single-story, single-family home with visible flames and smoke coming from the rear,” said a Durham Fire Department official.
After 34 firefighters responded to the scene, the official said the fire was under control in about 10 minutes.
Two adults and two dogs were inside when the fire broke out, everyone managed to escape without injury, except for one dog that did not survive the fire. According to the official, the people who lived in this house lost their houses.
“Due to extensive fire, smoke, and water damage, residents have been evacuated and are receiving assistance from friends, family, and the American Red Cross,” the official said.
In addition to the Durham Fire Department, the Redwood Volunteer Fire Department, the Durham County Fire Marshal’s Office, and Durham County EMS were also on hand to help extinguish the fire.
