CHAPEL HILL, NC — Democratic Representative Valerie Foushee has successfully won re-election to her U.S. House seat, continuing her representation of North Carolina’s 4th Congressional District. Foushee’s victory on Tuesday came against Republican candidate Eric Blankenburg and a Libertarian opponent, solidifying her role in a district known for its strong Democratic leanings, which includes the vibrant communities of Chapel Hill and Durham.
Having taken office in 2023, Foushee succeeded longtime Representative David Price, who held the congressional seat from 1986 until his retirement in 2020. Foushee’s extensive experience includes serving as the director of a local police department, as well as holding positions on the local school board, the county commission, and in the North Carolina General Assembly.
In Congress, Foushee has been active on the House Transportation and Science committees, where she plays a significant role in shaping policy that impacts her constituents. The Associated Press officially declared her victory at 8:23 PM EST.
