Raleigh, NC – Reports of mysterious objects in the skies have surged across the East Coast, with sightings reaching as far as New Jersey and now central North Carolina. Residents in Raleigh have recently reported observing glowing, color-changing orbs, sparking curiosity and speculation about what might be happening above.
Ava Caliguri, a Raleigh resident, captured a video of one such object on Tuesday morning from her balcony. The footage shows a round, white object that appeared to shift colors and emit a glowing light.
“It was as if these orbs were floating and moving in a strange way,” Caliguri said. “It was definitely not a drone. I’ve seen drones and the photos they’ve shared from New Jersey. This was something entirely different.”
Growing Reports and Mixed Interpretations
The unusual sightings come as reports of drone activity have surged along the East Coast. Over 5,000 tips about drone sightings have been submitted to authorities in recent weeks, according to a joint statement released Tuesday by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the Department of Defense (DoD).
“We have not identified anything unusual and are not evaluating the activity so far to present a national security or public safety risk,” the FBI said in its statement.
However, not all residents are convinced that drones explain the sightings. Tara Needham, a former astrologer in Raleigh, offered a more tempered take.
“A few weeks ago, I saw something,” Needham said. “It stayed in one place for several hours. That made me think it’s a drone. It’s definitely not a planet—planets don’t behave like that.”
Needham added, “Most people don’t usually look up very much. Now, they’re looking up and seeing what they want to see. The sky is full of objects every night. This is probably not too out of the ordinary.”
Authorities Weigh In
Despite the flurry of reports, the Raleigh Police Department has stated that it has received no official reports of drone or UFO sightings in the area. Meanwhile, federal agencies continue to monitor the situation but have dismissed any significant threat to public safety or national security.
Experts suggest that the rise in sightings may be linked to increased awareness rather than a spike in unusual aerial activity. Advances in technology, such as drones and satellites, combined with clearer skies during winter, may be contributing to the phenomenon.
A Broader Perspective
Drone sightings along the East Coast have drawn public attention and even speculation about extraterrestrial life or surveillance activities. However, experts emphasize the importance of measured responses to such reports.
According to the National UFO Reporting Center, while unusual aerial phenomena are regularly reported across the country, the vast majority are eventually identified as man-made objects, weather phenomena, or misidentified celestial bodies.
