The City recently received two honors from the Digital Government Institute for IT leadership in digital inclusion, citizen engagement, and effective use of AI-supported tools.
In September the City was honored at the 8th annual GovX Summit as one of six finalists for the 2024 Government Excellence Award. Bringing together government leaders, this annual event showcases the latest trends, best practices, and perspectives on emerging government experiences. This year’s winners were recognized for improved services related to cybersecurity, AI integration, customer service, accessibility, and broadband provision to improve the existing experience.
Other GovX winners include Los Angeles, CA, El Paso, TX, and Fort Collins, CO.
In addition, the City was ranked #5 in the 250,000 – 499,999 population category of the Center for Digital Government’s 2024 Digital Cities Survey, which was announced in November. The annual survey recognizes cities across the country for service delivery, cybersecurity readiness, partnerships with business units, and use of emerging technologies. Durham was noted for its leadership in Digital Inclusion engagement, as well as using new AI-powered tools to monitor threat detection, engage with citizens, and assist with criminal investigations.
Other Digital Cities finalists include Oakland, CA, Irvine, CA, Wichita, KS, and Virginia Beach, VA.
