Avelo Airlines Introduces Nonstop International Flights from RDU to the Caribbean

Avelo Airlines is set to enhance travel options for North Carolinians by launching two new nonstop international routes from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) to the Caribbean. Beginning in February 2025, travelers can fly directly to Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. These additions mark a significant milestone, as RDU expands its international destinations to 14.

Flight Details and Schedule

• Montego Bay, Jamaica: Inaugural flight commenced on February 12, 2025.

• Punta Cana, Dominican Republic: Service began on February 22, 2025.

These routes are particularly noteworthy as they reintroduce nonstop flights to destinations previously underserved from RDU. JetBlue discontinued its Montego Bay service in 2021, and Frontier Airlines ceased operations to both destinations in 2019. Avelo’s entry aims to fill this void, offering affordable travel options with one-way fares starting at $44.

Avelo’s Expansion in North Carolina

Beyond RDU, Avelo Airlines is strengthening its presence across North Carolina. The airline announced plans to establish two new bases at Concord-Padgett Regional Airport near Charlotte and Wilmington International Airport (ILM) in April 2025. Each base will house two aircraft, creating approximately 50 jobs per location.

This expansion includes seven new routes from North Carolina, bringing Avelo’s total nonstop routes from the state to 27. The airline’s commitment to the region is evident, with plans to base five aircraft in North Carolina, generating up to 100 new jobs.

Avelo Airlines CEO Andrew Levy expressed confidence in the success of these new routes, emphasizing the airline’s strategy of offering affordable and convenient travel options. Levy highlighted the demand for leisure-oriented international destinations from RDU, noting the limited nonstop services to locations like Mexico and the Caribbean.
