An investigation is underway after a Durham man went missing and was found dead, deputies said

DURHAM, NC (WNCN) — A man who was reported missing earlier this week in Durham was found dead on the north side of the city Friday, officials said.

The discovery was made when Durham Police Department officers were searching for a missing man Friday morning, according to a news release from the County Sheriff’s Office.

CBS 17 asked, but Durham police would not say who they were looking for Friday.

Durham County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division officers responded to northern Durham County to assist police in the search, the report said.

A dead man, believed to be a missing person, was found in the 300 block of Mason Road, west of North Roxboro Road/US 501, deputies said.

Deputies are now investigating the man’s death.

The State Medical Examiner responded to confirm the victim’s identity and cause of death.

As of Friday afternoon, the man’s name had not been released.

“We are in the early stages of the investigation,” deputies said in a news release.
