ROUGEMONT, NC – A pig found near Mangum Elementary School last month is set to be auctioned off after efforts to reunite it with its owners fell through. The Durham County Sheriff’s Office discovered the male pig “sitting on top of a piggery” near the school on November 20.
Initially, officials believed the pig had been returned to its rightful owners, sharing an update the following day that read, “This piggy is going home!” However, as of Monday morning, the sheriff’s office announced the pig remains unclaimed and will now be auctioned at The Blind Spot Animal Sanctuary.
The auction will take place on December 12 at 12 p.m. at the sanctuary, located at 307 Bacon Road in Rougemont. The auction is open to the public, with all transactions requiring cash payments.
Interested bidders can find auction rules and additional details on the Durham County Sheriff’s Office website. The sheriff’s office expressed gratitude to the community for their earlier efforts to assist in identifying the pig’s owners and ensuring its care in the interim.
While it’s unclear how the pig ended up near the school, the upcoming auction provides an opportunity for the animal to find a new home. Residents interested in adopting the pig or attending the auction are encouraged to visit the Blind Spot Animal Sanctuary and participate in this unique event.
