AJ, a student at Riverside High School, was described by his family as a kind-hearted teenager who loved soccer and video games. His mother, Taniesha Baines, recalled the morning of the tragedy, when AJ woke her up excited to play in the snow. Later that day, she was awakened by her daughter’s screams and the devastating news that her son had been shot.
“I was woken up by my daughter screaming, crying, ‘Wake up, wake up,’” Baines said. “Someone knocked on my door and told me that my son had been shot.”
A Family’s Plea for Justice
Baines emphasized that AJ was not the intended target of the shooting. “He’s not a bad kid,” she said. “I really want and need justice for my son. I know people know things out here, but they don’t say anything. That’s not right, not just for me, but for my daughter. She’s hurt.”
AJ’s uncle, Nathan Baines, echoed the family’s call for justice and is actively seeking answers. “If AJ was here, AJ would have sought justice,” Nathan said. “Some nights, I can’t sleep. Sometimes, it’s like a nightmare.”
