DURHAM, NC — A house in Durham was destroyed in a fire late Sunday morning, adding to a series of home fires reported across the state, including major incidents in Fayetteville and Raleigh earlier in the day.
The Durham Fire Department responded to the blaze at approximately 10:20 a.m. on the 2500 block of South Roxboro Street. According to a statement from the department, crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence.
Photos released by the department depict flames engulfing one side of the house, while firefighters worked from the roof to combat the fire.
Approximately 40 firefighters were on the scene, and they were able to bring the fire under control within 15 minutes. Thankfully, no one was home at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Despite the rapid response, the house sustained significant fire, smoke, and water damage throughout, according to officials. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
This fire follows two earlier incidents in Fayetteville and Raleigh, where large house fires also caused extensive damage but did not result in injuries.
