In a troubling sequence of events, Durham experienced two shootings within hours on Wednesday night, resulting in one man’s death and another suffering life-threatening injuries.
First Incident: Ridgeway Avenue Shooting
At approximately 6:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 1200 block of Ridgeway Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered a man with life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was promptly transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Second Incident: East Lawson Street Fatality
Just four hours later, around 10:43 p.m., police were dispatched to the 1200 block of East Lawson Street, less than a mile from the earlier incident. There, they found an elderly man who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not confirmed any connections between the two shootings and have not announced any arrests. The close timing and proximity of these incidents have heightened community concerns about safety and escalating violence.
