DURHAM, NC – A carjacking incident in Durham led to a police chase early Monday morning, ending at an apartment complex and resulting in multiple individuals being detained for questioning.
Incident Details
According to the Durham Police Department (DPD), officers spotted a stolen silver 2011 Nissan Juke in the 300 block of Old Oxford Road at approximately 2:56 a.m. The SUV had been reported stolen in a carjacking that occurred in the 4000 block of Meriwether Drive.
When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver fled, leading police on a chase to the Oxford Manor Apartments. The vehicle was abandoned on Wiggins Street, prompting a brief foot chase. The suspects then fled into a nearby home on Dearborn Drive.
Individuals Detained
Police surrounded the residence and ultimately brought five people outside for questioning. Among them were four children, a man, and a woman. All were taken to Durham Police Headquarters as part of the ongoing investigation.
“The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released in due course,” the Durham Police Department stated in a press release.
