Durham, NC — The 2024 Durham Holiday Parade lit up downtown Durham this Saturday morning, spreading holiday cheer to thousands of bundled-up spectators braving brisk temperatures in the 40s. The event featured over 100 festive entries, from yuletide floats and marching bands to food trucks and beloved school mascots, making it a celebration to remember.
At the forefront of this year’s procession was Parade Marshal Wanda Page, Durham’s retired city manager, who proudly led the festivities after dedicating 37 years of service to the city.
Among the crowd, longtime Durham resident Darlene Walker shared her enduring love for the tradition. “I’ve been in Durham all my life, so I always come to the Christmas fair. It’s something I look forward to every year.”
Others echoed her sentiments, including viewer Erica Whitaker, who declared, “I love Durham, so I love the parade at Christmas time! There’s nothing better!”
First-time attendee Hayden Lude was also impressed, calling the event “really good and fun,” while Keith Levene described the parade as “always powerful and fun.”
For families like Brigid Cash’s, the highlight of the morning was seeing Santa Claus make one of his final appearances before Christmas. “We love it,” she said, adding, “The kids love it!”
Organizers went to great lengths to ensure the parade ran smoothly and safely. Members of Durham’s public safety team were stationed along the route, carefully monitoring float spacing and ensuring spectators and participants stayed safe.
As Main Street transformed into a winter wonderland, the parade proved once again why it remains a cherished holiday tradition in the Bull City. Whether it’s the music, the energy, or the joy of community spirit, the Durham Holiday Parade continues to bring people together to celebrate the magic of the season.
