HOUSE FIRE IN BRAGTOWN NEIGHBORHOOD DRAWS MASSIVE RESPONSE

Durham, NC – In the early hours of Sunday morning, a house fire in the Bragtown neighborhood prompted a swift and robust response from the Durham Fire Department, underscoring the critical role our first responders play in keeping our community safe. The fire, which broke out on the 1300 block of Maplewood Drive, called 36 firefighters to the scene and drew dozens of onlookers from the neighborhood.

According to Durham Fire Department Division Chief Shawn Field, the call came in at approximately 1:40 a.m. The first unit on the scene encountered an active fire, with flames visible from the property. Within minutes, additional crews arrived, and the blaze was brought under control in just 10 minutes.

Chief Field commended the professionalism and efficiency of his team. “Our crews worked quickly and effectively to ensure the fire didn’t spread to neighboring homes. Thankfully, there were no injuries, and the home was unoccupied at the time.”

Photos shared by Chief Field reveal dramatic scenes of thick smoke pouring from the red brick house as firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the flames. While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Durham EMS was also on-site to assist the large crew in managing the operation.
